Summary: The last time a swarm of giant ants made their mark on the desert, it was one of the first movies to be made about oversized killer bugs. Now, the premise is back with a vengeance. It might be a bit heavy on the cheap CGI, but sometimes, you don't need a decent effects budget to show how bad an ant invasion can get when there's hardly any civilization for miles.

History: Back in the 50s, a meteor containing alien DNA fell into the deserts of New Mexico. A government facility used the DNA as the backbone for Project THEM, in which they spliced it with the DNA of fire ants and tarantulas in an effort to create the perfect soldier. But the 9th batch figured out how to escape, and soon, all of the ants overran the facility. Now, they are ready to break loose, and unleash all their fury on modern man. Of course, most of the people in the desert currently are partyers and drunks, so it might be a slow invasion.

Notable Kills: One of the ants tosses a beer keg at a man's head.

Final Fate: The ants may be able to destroy most of the stuff the humans recently did in the desert, but the queen is brought down when one of the survivors uses an advanced rifle to gun her down. The rest of the surviving ants have to contend with at least three people with such intricate weaponry.

Powers/Abilities: The ability to spit out sticky web to ensnare prey, as well as spit formic acid.

Weakness: Heavy artillery.

Scariness Factor: 3-As stated above, the CGI isn't exactly that much better than a standard Syfy movie. However, it isn't so bad as to make the monsters lose all intimidation. These ants look more demonic than the ones of old ever did, especially the queen. Combine that with their swarming tactics, and you have yourself a decent cringe fest for those afraid of ants.

Trivia: -This film was based off a video game released on the Amiga console by Cinemaware in 1989. It was a game that focused on a small town getting assaulted by giant ants, and featured many forms of gameplay. A playthrough of it all even features during the end credits of this film.
